Travel in the Himalayas is rewarding and also demanding. Please read this disclaimer carefully before booking a trip with The Expedition House.
1. High altitude and your health
- Roads on our routes cross passes above 4,500 m to 5,300 m. Altitude sickness can affect anyone, whatever their age or fitness, and can become serious.
- Consult your doctor before booking if you have a heart, lung, blood-pressure, diabetic or other medical condition, are pregnant, or are very young or elderly.
- Tell your trip leader straight away if you feel headache, nausea, dizziness, breathlessness or unusual tiredness. Following their advice, including descending or resting, is essential.
- Medical facilities along remote routes are limited and rescue can be delayed by weather and terrain. Costs of medical care, evacuation or hospital stay are the traveller's responsibility.
2. Weather, roads and schedules
Mountain weather and road conditions can change within hours. Delays, detours and changes of plan are a normal part of mountain travel and are made to keep you safe. Timings and distances in itineraries (for example "± 180 km") are approximate.
3. Safety on the road and in camp
- Wear seat belts and follow the driver's instructions. Do not distract the driver or ask for unsafe stops.
- Stay with the group, keep to marked areas near cliffs, rivers and lakes, and never swim in high-altitude lakes or rivers.
- Camping and some stays may be basic, with limited electricity, hot water and network coverage.
4. Assumption of risk
By booking, you confirm that you understand the risks of adventure travel in remote high-altitude regions, that you are physically able to take part, and that you accept these risks voluntarily. This does not remove our duty to take reasonable care in organising your trip, and it does not limit any right you have under law that cannot be excluded.
5. Information on this website
We try to keep itineraries, prices, photographs and other information accurate, but they may change and may contain mistakes. Photographs show typical scenery and conditions and are not a guarantee of what you will see on your dates. Always confirm key details with us before you pay.
6. Third-party links and services
This website may link to other sites or rely on third-party services (such as maps, fonts and messaging apps). We do not control them and are not responsible for their content or availability.
7. Insurance
We strongly recommend comprehensive travel insurance covering high-altitude trekking and road travel, medical treatment, evacuation, trip cancellation and loss of baggage.
